PRISON: U.S. to Release 6,000 Inmates to Ease Overcrowding

About 6,000 federal prison inmates are about to receive a "get out of jail free" card of sorts. As part of an effort to cut down on overcrowded and ease up of the harsh sentences handed down to non-violent drug dealers during the '80s and '90s, the Justice Department is getting ready to cut loose about 6,000 prisoners.

The release, set to go down from October 30th through November 2nd, is reportedly of the biggest mass discharge of prisoners in U.S. history, according to an official who spoke anonymously because the plan has yet to be officially announced by the Justice Department. (The New York Times)

Talk About It:

This sounds like a good plan, provided those released find work and don't return to a life of crime.

Prison overcrowding in a major concern these days.
