OPRAH, MICHELLE OBAMA: Will Honor Maya Angelou

Dr. Maya Angelou will be honored today, as the Forever stamp featuring the poet, author, and civil rights advocate will have a ceremony to recognize its first day of release. The Maya Angelou Forever stamp will be dedicated at 11 a.m. at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. in a free event open to the public.

Oprah Winfrey, Al Sharpton, First Lady Michelle Obama and the icon's grandson have been tapped to take part in the honors. The stamp showcases Atlanta-based artist Ross Rossin's portrait of Angelou, currently on display at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. It also features this quotation by the pioneering author: "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."

Those who want to celebrate the occasion are being encouraged to use social media to spread the word using #MayaForever. (TheHill)

Quickies:

There's actually debate over whether the quote that's featured was first said by Maya Angelou.

The Simpsons and Marvel superheroes have their own stamps, it's about time Dr. Angelou got one.

Who do you think deserves their own Forever stamp?

They call it a "Forever stamp" but who knows how long the post office will even be around.
