NASHVILLE, Tenn. - One person was killed and another was sent to the hospital in critical condition after a serious crash overnight on Interstate 24 near the Ellington Parkway exit.
The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Officials said the driver of a van lost control when a tire came loose and fell off.
The driver swerved and hit a guard rail before traveling another quarter-mile down the road. The van then went off the roadway and struck a tree before coming to a rest in the embankment.
One person was thrown from the van. Police said no one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.
The survivor was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.
Crime scene investigators said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
