NICKI MINAJ: Responds to 'Starship' Lawsuit

Nicki Minaj has finally spoken about the "Starships" lawsuit.

In September 2013, Chicago EDM artist Clive Tanaka filed a lawsuit against Nicki Minaj, claiming the rapper’s hit song “Starships” used parts of his song “Neu Chicago” without his permission.

The Young Money rapper is requesting that the suite be dismissed. According to court documents filed on Minaj's behalf, she has never heard the song “Neu Chicago" and states that "Starships" is an “original works of authorship," pointing out that she received the “demo” of “Starships” from producer Red Oneand then added her own lyrics in the verses.

Nicki also argues that Tanaka released “Neu Chicago” in 2010, but did not register the song until three years later, after "Starships" came out.

But Christopher Niro, Tanaka’s attorney, said, “We believe they are similar to the point that it is nearly impossible for it to be a coincidence.”
