New York Newspaper Refers to President Obama as the "N" Word

The newspaper describes itself as "Manhattan’s voice of the Lower West Side". Each month, 20,000 copies are distributed across the West Village, Greenwich Village and parts of Chelsea neighborhoods.

However, one article has peaked the interest in the circulation. An article with the headline of “The N**** in the White House” has gotten the newspaper national attention. The piece was written to be a positive piece against racism. Supposedly, the use of the racial slur was only used to bring light to the racism in today's politics.

People of the neighborhood where this newspaper is disturbed have protested the headline. Editor, George Capsis, says that author James "Jim" Collier "wanted to use the word" to "shock us into accepting that there are people who believe and use this outrageous word".

The editor understood that people would be disturbed and stated that the editorial staff of the paper also objected to the headline but chose to run it anyway.

The headline is very offensive and done in poor taste. There are other ways to “shock” your readers into seeing that racism is still active in our country.
