New Edition will be getting the bio-pic treatment on a BET mini-series.

The network just announced plans to produce its first music-focused scripted movie, telling the tale of the '80s group over the course of three nights.

Group members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Trevsant have signed on to co-produce the film, which is slated to air next year. Founding member Bobby Brown is not involved in the production and has not commented on his lack of involvement. (Billboard)

Say Whaaaat:

Five out of six original members are on-board — do you think Bobby Brown has a particular reason for staying away?

Bobby Brown has likely been too busy dealing with the death of his daughter to make any creative decisions.

The band’s longtime choreographer (and DeVoe's uncle) Brooke Payne will serve as a co-producer.

Not enough music fans know the story behind one of the greatest and most influential R&B groups of all time -- this should help change that.

Hopefully the heavy involvement from the group's members doesn't led to this just being a fluff piece.

Wonder if any of them have sons who can play them...
