Nashville students of color fall behind on ACT

Nashville Director of Schools Shawn Joseph and his administration have taken a deeper look at ACT data, finding that the district is also not meeting the needs of students of color with who aren't low-income.

 

In early September, the district detailed that about 42 percent of non-economically disadvantaged students scored at least a 21 on the ACT compared to 18.5 percent of economically disadvantaged students.

 

But students of color who aren't identified as low-income don't perform on the same level as white students. Paul Changas, the district's director of research, assessment and evaluation, said the district isn't able to break down specific income levels.
