Monique has been blackballed in Hollywood

The Academy Awards are this Sunday. One face you will not see in the crowd is Mo'Nique, the 2010 Best Supporting Actress for her role in Precious. It was her last acting job in a motion picture.

She now practically wishes she could turn back time and basically give away the Oscar. In a revealing interview with The Hollywood Report, Mo'Nique describes how Hollywood has shunned her ever since (quote) “I thought, you're supposed to be treated as if you got the top prize. But I got a phone call from Lee Daniels and he said to me, ‘Mo'Nique, you've been blackballed.’”

Lee Daniels has issued a statement (quote) “The consensus among the creative teams and powers thus far were to go another way with these roles.” He has offered Mo'Nique three major roles, including a part in the smash hit Empire, but Daniels has been over-ruled. The parts went to another actress.

According the Daniels, who both directs and produces, Mo'Nique did not play the Hollywood game, so she’s being punished. Leading up to her Oscar win, Mo'Nique was outspoken and adamant about refusing fluff interviews and jet-setting to ritzy parties. She declared never to campaign for the statuette, leaving only her work in the movie to impress the Academy Award voters.  Even in her acceptance speech, she acknowledged (quote) “This award shows that it can be about the performance and not the politics.”

According to Mo'Nique and Lee Daniels, she won the battle, but lost the war.
