92Q will participate in several events planned across the mid-state today to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

At 9 a.m., a prayer service will be held at Jefferson Street Baptist Church before a march begins at 10 a.m. New Tennessee State University President Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover will join Mayor Dean, other officials and citizens in the annual march that starts at the intersection of 28th and Jefferson Streets.  The march will end at the Gentry Center for the annual convocation at 10:30 a.m.

Mayor Dean will also be the keynote speaker for a special MLK Day event at the Gordon Jewish Community Center at 11:45 a.m. The luncheon, which is open to the public, costs $10.  

La Vergne will hold an inaugural remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. at City Hall at 5093 Murfreesboro Road.

Williamson County will host a Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in "The Grove. "

Sumner county will also be holding a march at noon at the Gallatin City Hall.

All goverment buildings, schools, banks and state and federal offices are closed today.

Dr. King's birthday was last week on January 15. He would have been 84. He was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis on April 4, 1968.  President Obama will honor him Monday by using a bible that belonged to Dr. King when he takes his public oath of office during the inaugural events in Washington.
