Mississippi might get a custom license plate honoring an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan. The Mississippi Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans wants to sponsor a series of state-issued license plates, with some specifically honoring General Nathan Bedford-Forrest.
Forrest was seen by a genius by some and hated by others for leading an 1864 massacre of black Union troops at Fort Pillow, Tennessee. He was rewarded with a high ranking within the Klan after the war, but is said to have withdrawn from the group later in life.
