Miami nightclub shooting leaves 15 wounded

A shooting at a Miami nightclub early Sunday morning left 15 people wounded, many of them teenagers.

The shooting victims range in age from 11 to 25, according to CNN. The incident happened around 1 a.m. at a club called The Spot, where a large party was being held. Witnesses told police they heard about 100 gunshots, WPLG reports.

“Several victims were released from hospitals Sunday afternoon and a person who'd earlier been listed as critical was upgraded to critical but stable, police said in a news release,” CNN reports. “No public safety officials have explained why so many youths 16 and younger were inside a nightclub after the midnight Miami-Dade County curfew.” That curfew makes it illegal for children under the age of 17 to be out on their own between midnight and 6 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

No arrests had been made by Sunday afternoon, and police were still trying to determine whether there was more than one shooter. The motive for the shooting also remained unclear.

“Capt. Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue said the scene was chaotic when emergency medical personnel arrived,” CNN reports. “Wounded people were found inside the club and on the sidewalk, he said. … With so many wounded people, emergency responders had to treat some victims on the sidewalk.” NewsChannel5
