Mechelle Mcnair Requests 3 Million from Mcnair Estate

Steve McNair’s widow asked to take an additional $3.72 million from a frozen trust account belonging to the late Titans quarterback.

Mechelle McNair filed the request last week in Davidson County Probate Court claiming the estate owed hefty state and federal estate taxes — $2.86 million to the federal government and $864,762 to the state of Tennessee.

The filing stated that the taxes were due on or before April 5, nine months after Steve McNair’s date of death.

“The estate believes that both the federal and Tennessee tax returns will have to be amended upon a final determination of Jonula Mechelle McNair’s interest in the estate as a surviving spouse,” the filing read.

Judge Randy Kennedy approved the motion the same day it was filed.

This is not the first time Mechelle McNair has asked the court to dip into the funds, held by SEI Private Trust Co. McNair agreed last year to restricted access to the funds while the courts sort of the late legend’s estate.

Mechelle McNair is allowed to draw $10,000 per month from the trust fund, but in early March she asked the court for an additional $120,000.

That filing said the estate had “continuing and necessary expenses" that had depleted its cash reserves.
