Having won in court against songwriters Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke, Marvin Gaye's family have turned their sights on those they feel escaped the initial verdict, but also should bear legal responsibility. They include rapper T.I. and the three labels involved in distributing "Blurred Lines," Universal Music, Interscope Records and Star Trak Entertainment.
On Tuesday, the Gayes' lawyers filed a motion with the trial judge to correct what they see as a jury decision that's inconsistent with the judge's wording on who has liability in the case. It was stated that the infringement took place "by virtue of their participation in the creation, manufacture and distribution" of "Blurred Lines," and therefore the Gayes feel it should include T.I and the labels.
The Gaye family wants distribution of "Blurred Lines" halted until a financial settlement can be worked out for sales of the song going forward, so the judge's decision on who is liable would have an effect on that going forward, as well.
