Local News: Mother and Son Killed While Helping Wreck Victim

A 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son were killed on Interstate 65 in Williamson County Monday night after being hit by a semi while trying to help stranded motorists who had crashed their car.

According to Franklin police, an SUV hit a patch of black ice and overturned approximately one mile south of Murfreesboro Road just after 9:15 p.m.

Kristi Clark and her son Carter Oakley witnessed the wreck and stopped to help the motorists, police said.

The mother and son were standing outside of their vehicle when they were hit by a semi. Oakley died at the scene. Clark passed away a short time later at Williamson Medical Center.

News 2 has since learned the pair were near their home and had gone sledding earlier in the day.

“Kristi and her son, Carter, are heroes,” said Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner. “These Good Samaritans put themselves in harm’s way to help a stranger. The goodness in their hearts that prompted them to do that will never be forgotten.” WKRN
