Local News: Alleged Carjacker Suspected In Other Crimes

A man who allegedly carjacked a victim earlier in the week has been suspected in other crimes.

Officials with Metro Police said 51-year-old Jonathon Lewis is believed to have been responsible for a carjacking on Monday morning.

He was charged with the crime after the alleged victim identified him in a photo lineup Thursday night.

The victim told police he was at a Suntrust ATM on Jefferson Street when Lewis came up to him, pulled out a gun and told him to hand over his possessions.

Lewis then allegedly drove off in the victim’s van.

The following morning, a Metro Police officer spotted the car driving without a headlight. When police tried to pull him over, Lewis allegedly sped off without stopping.

A chase ensued along the interstate and through downtown. Lewis finally pulled over on 3rd Ave and Gay Street and was arrested. However, at that time he was not charged with carjacking.

A few days prior to the original carjacking, Lewis was suspected of robbing another man at gunpoint at the same ATM.

Police said Lewis forced that victim to drive him to another location.

He was booked into the Metro jail, where he’s facing a slew of charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

Lewis' bond was set at more than $375,000.WTVF
