Lindsay Lohan is in even hotter water over this past weekend's car accident -- because she allegedly lied to cops by saying she wasn't behind the wheel, TMZ reports.

Linds told responding officers that she was just a passenger in the totaled Porsche, which was being driven by her assistant -- but the lackey told the truth, ruining LiLo's poorly-thought out scheme.

Providing false information to a police officer is a crime, so Lindsay could be prosecuted for that -- and could have her shoplifting probation revoked.
