Vidal Sassoon, a pioneering hairstylist who built a cosmetics empire, has died, ABC News confirms. He was 84.
Credited with popularizing the style known as "the bob" in the sixties, as well as the concept of "wash and wear," Sassoon was said to have freed women from having to go to the beauty parlor every week to get their hair done.
Most Americans know the British hairstylist from the line of haircare products that bear his name. They hit the market in the 1980s with ads that featured the iconic slogan, "If you don't look good, we don't look good." He also built a worldwide chain of Vidal Sassoon salons.
