Ku Klux Klan Holds Rally In Pennsylvania, Only 30 People Show Up

The Ku Klux Klan held a rally at the Gettysburg Battlefield on Saturday, but not many people were witness to it.

Mail Online reports that Richard Preston, head of the Confederate White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, based in Rosedale, Md., secured the permit for the rally last week. Members of KKK groups from Delaware and Virginia also attended the rally.

The KKK members were separated from the crowd of about 30 people, by more than 20 police officers and two fences, set up by the National Park Service, according to pennlive.com.

"They looked like you would expect, but they sounded like a political rally," Rachel Young said. "It was odd. Still offensive, but odd."

The speakers reportedly railed against the Affordable Care Act, illegal immigration and the national debt, among other issues.

Ironically, a demonstration against the KKK was held on the other side of Gettysburg and attended by about 60 people. Both events took place without any major incidents or confrontations.

"The KKK can dress up their message but they still symbolize hate to me," said Grace Nelson. "I want people to know that's not what this community is about."

An initial KKK rally in Gettysburg didn’t take place after the government shutdown began. The KKK had been granted a permit for what it dubbed a First Amendment demonstration at Gettysburg National Military Park, but park officials said it could not take place because all National Parks had been closed
