You might have heard before that Prince was originally set to be on Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-nominated To Pimp a Butterfly -- and now we know why it didn’t happen.
KDot collaborator Rapsody says the intent for “Complexion (A Zulu Love)” was to create a song that “talked about the beauty of black people.” The way Lamar originally envisioned it, Rapsody would do both verses on the record with the Purple One on the hook.
Prince apparently got as far as hearing the record and making it to the studio, but in the end things didn’t come together. Kendrick says he and Prince spent so much time politicking in the studio, before they knew it, they were out of time to make music. (Grammy.com)
* Can you imagine a Kendrick and Prince collaboration? Talk about legendary!
* I thought these guys were supposed to be pro musicians? How do you get in the same studio as Prince and not take a few moments to record a song and create history?
* Who do you think was more starstruck?
