Prior to the 2012 election, President Obama's aides considered dropping Vice President Biden for Hillary Clinton, according to a new book on the president's re-election campaign.
But the aides finally decided that although Clinton was popular, adding her to the ticket wouldn't give enough of a lift to the president to justify such a big change.
The revelation from the book titled Double Down, penned by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, broke Thursday night. In the book, which is the sequel to their book Game Change on the 2008 campaign, the authors write, "Biden had dodged a bullet he never saw coming -- and never would know anything about, if the Obamas could kept a secret."
