Accompanied by a 36-piece orchestra, Jay-Z opened a two-night stand at New York City's Carnegie Hall on Monday night. He opened the show by telling the audience, “All those lines that divide us, we gonna step on them."
Jay was joined by a couple of guest stars. Alicia Keys was there to perform their duet "Empire State of Mind," and Nas made a cameo on "If I Ruled the World." Questlove ofThe Roots sat in with the orchestra.
The track list included “99 Problems," “Big Pimpin'" and, most notably, "Glory," the song Jay released following the birth of his child with Beyoncé, Blue Ivy Carter. At the conclusion of "Glory," he said, "I ain’t think I was gonna make it through that one," adding, "That was tough."
The concerts benefit the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
