Jay Z "Goes In" on LL Cool J...Uh Oh!

Jay-Z opens us a can of worms in his Rolling Stone magazine cover story, taking a shot at LL Cool J. He says, "We've seen people like LL [Cool J] have longevity, and we respect the heritage of what he's done, but it's not like, right now, he's competing on the same level as Lil' Wayne." Jay says the problem Uncle L and others have is trying to keep up with the young crowd. "You don't know the slang -- it changes every day... So you're trying to be something you're not, and the audience doesn't buy into that. [They're like] 'I made a great Southern bounce song!' You're from New York, and you're 70! Why are you bouncing?" --Jamila Daniel

Kenny ASKS:

  • Even if he's right, was it wrong of Jay-Z to mention LL like that? Particularly since LL arguably opened the door for him at Def Jam?
  • Is Jay-Z becoming the new Diddy -- known more as a brand than his music?

Jay Z needs to be quiet! I never thought he could rap in the first place! LL has moved on to bigger and better things like his acting career, which has really taken off! LL doesn't have to compete with dumb *** Lil Wayne or any other of the younger rappers! He is on a much higher level now! How is Jay Z gonna say anything, when all he has is being the husband of Beyonce that's why he even gets a mention!

I don't believe that J was attempting to belittle LL, he was only stating that some of the older rappers are attempting to keep up with the younger rappers and their style of flow, which is not a good look. Fortunately for LL, he has his acting career. HOV has his business ventures. Older rappers still in the game should perhaps put their talents elsewhere, such as talent management, concert promoters, etc.

Jay-Z was really out of line, it does seem like he always has something negative things to say now, that's not cool I guess since he thinks he has B he can say anything he wants, that's what wrong with black people now always putting the other down, that's why we can't get ahead.

first of all jay-z cant rap anyway, the only thing he talks about is what he has, never a message letting us know whats really going on. dont he have more things to worry about.

How in the world could he try to make it sound like LL is not doing his thing. Jay is so disrespectful. LL said when Jigga was over Def Jam he did not feel any love. I know he really don't wanna go there...I Love me some LL..back up Jay, LL has been know to shut folks down real fast!

Seems lately Jay Z seems to think he is the Godfather of rappers. He has a lot of opinons. He does not seem to to be uplifting, nor supportative of his counterparts. I don't think he is a fair minded individual. Only when it comes to HIMSELF AND "B", oh and Rihanna

LL doesn't have to compete with Lil Wayne or Jay-Z's old behind. He's LL. Period. LL paved the way and he's on a level much different than J or even Kurtis Blow for that matter. He has done it consistently before it was "cool" or accepted the way it is today. Jay-Z is off base with that. It's like competing with your own child. Who does that?

Jay-Z is only a year behind LL Cool J... Quotes Jay-Z... 'He says, "We've seen people like LL [Cool J] have longevity, and we respect the heritage of what he's done, but it's not like, right now, he's competing on the same level as Lil' Wayne."
It seems to me that he is competing as well...
