JAY Z, BEYONCE: Silently Paid Bail for Protestors

Dream Hampton, the writer behind Jay Z’s Decoded, says Jay and Beyonce have supported protesters in Baltimore with their checkbooks.

Though they've gotten flak for staying mostly silent about their views on Ferguson, Baltimore and protests in general, they’ve been quietly donating large sums of money to help arrested protesters post bail.

Dream shared details of the Carters' support on Sunday, tweeting, “When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protesters, I hit Jay up, as I had for Ferguson, [and he] wired tens of thousands in minutes... When [Black Lives Matter] needed infrastructure money for the many chapters we’re growing like beautiful dandelions, [the] Carters wrote a huge check.” Hampton says the couple’s contributions are too numerous to list.

According to one of the last tweets posted that day, Jay asked Dream to keep things hushed, at which point many of the previous posts were deleted. (Complex)

    In the social media era, when a good deed is done, many feel the need to share it.

    Jay and Bey still have influence beyond their money -- it wouldn’t hurt to speak out more, either.

    Jay still wound up getting his props in the end, whether he wanted to or not.
