The six Iranians jailed after a video of them dancing to the hit song "Happy" went viral were released Wednesday after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani tweeted his approval. Yet the director of the clip remains behind bars.

The video, featuring the six young people dancing on a rooftop to the Pharrell Williams hit, has racked up a ton of YouTube views, but it didn't play well with authorities in Iran, where co-ed dancing and women appearing without proper head covering is against Islamic law.

When Pharrell caught wind of the controversy, he shared his disgust, posting on Facebook, "It is beyond sad that these kids were arrested for trying to spread happiness."

After the arrests and the subsequent outcry, President Hassan Rouhani tweeted, "#Happiness is out people's right. We shouldn't be too hard on behaviors caused by joy."

That set the stage for the release of the dancers, who claimed they were promised the clip wouldn't be broadcast, but it apparently didn't get the director off the hook.
