Following recent reports that Halle Berry's ex, Gabriel Aubry, would get upset whenever anyone called their daughter Nahla black, Halle has come out swinging. She tells Ebony that she considers her daughter African-American and believes in the "one-drop rule." Historically, the one-drop rule has been used to assign someone to a lower social class. A century ago, many state legislators codified the rule to keep blacks from voting.
Do you think Nahla should be categorized as white or black? What are your criteria?
A lot of people have criticized Halle for citing the one-drop rule. What do you think about her referencing it?
I think it's her daughter and if she feels that she is black then that's her business. I personally believe she is white because her dad is white and her mother is mixed not fully black, so it would seem that she has more white in her.
