You've probably seen the photo. A New York Police officer was recently captured giving a brand new pair of boots and a pair of warm socks to a barefoot homeless man in Times Square in a picture that perfectly captures the holiday spirit.

Now the officer who is truly New York's finest has come forward and is talking about the experience. He's 25-year-old Lawrence DePrimo of Long Island. He joined the police force two years ago and he still lives with his parents.

DePrimo found out the man wore a size 12 and went into a nearby Skeechers store and bought him some all-weather boots for $75. Skeechers gave him an employee discount. He told The New York Times that he's keeping the receipt in his bulletproof vest pocket "to remind me that sometimes people have it worse."

Since it was posted on Facebook on Tuesday, the photo has been "liked" more than 347,000 times and shared more than 94,000 times, and brought it's DePrimo worldwide notoriety.

One person commented, "My eyes stung from the tears as I read this story -- so awesome knowing there is still goodness in the world! May only good things come to this angel of an officer!"
