George Clinton Has To Give Up Copyrights On Some of His Songs....Damn!

Funk legend George Clinton has to hand over the copyrights to four of his songs in order to pay off over $1 million in debt that he owes his former lawyers.


According to TMZ, the funk icon's former lawyers at Hendricks & Lewis law firm, who worked for him between 2005 and 2008, won a $1.5 million case against him in 2010 after claiming he had failed to pay back their fees.

But in new documents, Hendricks & Lewis executives claim Clinton had only repaid them $340,000. Therefore, on Nov. 12, a federal judge ordered that copyrights to four of Clinton's songs be handed to the law firm in lieu of payment.

The songs handed over were "Hardcore Jollies," "The Electric Spanking of War Babies," "Uncle Jam Wants You" and "One Nation Under A Groove." The gossip site reports that the law firm can now sell or use the music however it wants.

TMZ reports that once the debt is paid off, the copyright ownership will return to Clinton, who has filed a motion to reverse the decision.
