FOOTBALL HAZING: Gruesome Details Emerge

Details are emerging about the hazing scandal involving a New Jersey high school football team -- and they're pretty disturbing.

Earlier this week, Sayreville school superintendent Richard Labbe cancelled the remainder of Sayreville War Memorial's season, citing “incidences of harassment, intimidation and bullying...that took place on a pervasive level, on a wide-scale level and at a level in which the players knew, tolerated and in general accepted.” And now a parent of one of the victims has come forward to describe those incidences in detail.

According to the parent, upperclassmen on the team would routinely pin freshman players to the ground and sodomize them with their fingers. The parent says one player would howl like a wolf, and then the lights in the locker room would go off. A freshman would then be grabbed and pinned, and someone would force his fingers into the boy's rectum, sometimes then forcing them into his mouth. The parent says it was going on "every day."

At least one parent of an upperclassman disputes the account. Madeline Thillet said at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting that when police interviewed her son, "they were talking about a butt being grabbed. That’s about it."

Sayreville War Memorial has made the playoffs each of the last 20 seasons and won state sectional titles three of the past four years. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the allegations.
