First Black Woman Wins Mrs. Tennessee America Pageant

Monette Bryant of Antioch (Metropolitan Nashville), Tennessee, entered the Mrs Tennessee America Pageant held in Jackson, Tennessee April 30^th and May 1^st of 2010. She competed against twelve other women from across the state for the title of Mrs. Tennessee America. Bryant was representing Metropolitan Nashville as Mrs. Davidson County, a title which she has held since December of 2009. This two day event consisted of three main steps to winning—a personal interview, a swimsuit competition, and an evening gown competition.

Born and raised in the state that is known as a place for lovers and the home to the world’s largest naval station, she says, “I knew early on that I was in search for more.” After college, she was enticed by the big city of Atlanta, realizing that she needed to be under brighter lights; Bryant moved to Chicago where she met her husband a “fly-boy”, pilot.

Monette Bryant is married to Jonathan Bryant, a pilot recently selected to fly our then President-elect Barack Obama on his last commercial flight. She is also the mother of two gorgeous children, a son named Cameron and a daughter named Alana.
