First Black Woman Wins Mrs. Tennessee America Pageant

First Black Woman Wins Mrs. Tennessee America Pageant

Monette Bryant of Antioch (Metropolitan Nashville), Tennessee, entered the Mrs Tennessee America Pageant held in Jackson, Tennessee April 30th and May 1st of 2010. She competed against twelve other women from across the state for the title of Mrs. Tennessee America. Bryant was representing Metropolitan Nashville as Mrs. Davidson County, a title which she has held since December of 2009. This two day event consisted of three main steps to winning—a personal interview, a swimsuit competition, and an evening gown competition.

Born and raised in the state that is known as a place for lovers and the home to the world’s largest naval station, she says, “I knew early on that I was in search for more.” After college, she was enticed by the big city of Atlanta, realizing that she needed to be under brighter lights; Bryant moved to Chicago where she met her husband a “fly-boy”, pilot.

Monette Bryant is married to Jonathan Bryant, a pilot recently selected to fly our then President-elect Barack Obama on his last commercial flight. She is also the mother of two gorgeous children, a son named Cameron and a daughter named Alana.
