History was made in South Carolina this week, as voters elected Columbia's first African-American mayor. Attorney and lobbyist Steve Benjamin won Tuesday's runoff election with 56 percent of the vote, beating out City Councilman Kirkman Finlay. The 40-year-old father of two replaces Bob Coble, who announced he'd step aside last year after two decades in office.
