Family of teen in homemade clock debacle seeking $15 million in damages

The family of Ahmed Mohamed, the Texas teenager who was arrested after bringing a homemade clock to school, is asking for apologies and millions in compensation.

Lawyers for the family sent letters to the city of Irving and the Irving School District. In the letters, they ask for written apologies from the school district, the city's mayor and the city's police chief, as well as $15 million.

The letters said the family has suffered physical and mental anguish because of the ordeal and that Mohamed's civil rights were violated.

The family's attorney said the city and school have 60 days to comply or a civil lawsuit will be filed.

Since the incident, the family has left the United States and is now living in Qatar.
