Facebook users no longer have to identify themselves as a man or a woman.
The social network added a third "custom" gender option on Thursday that allows U.S. users to choose from 50 different options that include "transgender," "cisgender," "gender fluid," "intersex," and "neither."
In addition, users also can choose which pronoun they feel best suits them -- he/his, she/her or the they/their.
In a post on their Diversity page, Facebook wrote, "When you come to Facebook to connect with the people, causes, and organizations you care about, we want you to feel comfortable being your true, authentic self. An important part of this is the expression of gender, especially when it extends beyond the definitions of just 'male' or 'female.' So today, we're proud to offer a new custom gender option to help you better express your own identity on Facebook."
