Esperanza Spalding Nabs Two DownBeat Readers Poll Awards
Esperanza Spalding is among a list of select artists to win honors in the 77th Annual DownBeat Readers Poll.
The bassist-singer takes home the award for jazz artist of the year in the long-running jazz magazine's poll. The Grammy award-winner's album Radio Music Society nabbed the reader's choice for jazz album of the year. Other winners in various categories include Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and about 30 other artists. More than 17,000 fans voted in the poll.
The December issue of the magazine will feature the winners, or for a complete list of winners check out the DownBeat website.
After a recent performance at New York City's Apollo Theater, Esperanza is now touring Europe. As previously reported, Esperanza has signed to host the series Groundbreaking Music featuring artists including Earth Wind & Fire, and others. on the new Magic Johnson TV network ASPiRE.
