Did Radio One send out a Mandate Banning All Matthew Knowles Artists & Music?

“All Radio One personnel were told to pull all Music World artists out of rotation immediately and indefinitely! We were told that the mandate came straight from Ms. Hughes and that there would be ramifications for anyone playing or mentioning a Music World artist or song on air,” a Radio One employee, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told us.

First let me say I had a scoop on this story a month ago but my contact was not clear on the details nor did she come through with the rest of the information. As the LEADER in breaking this kind of news this makes me want to take a shit. Nevertheless, I’d rather see one of my favorite industry people Lee Bailey get it before The Hollywood Reporter which rarely if ever prints any black news. (I wish they would stop sending me that shit in the mail).

Both Mathew Knowles and Cathy Hughes are entrepreneurs, I’m sure they BOTH know how incredibly hard it is for black businesses to survive and thrive. We have to be magicians and pull 20 rabbits out of the hat just to get our foot in the door. Just what the hell is this the best solution for?

This is childish. Shame on Radio One. Why should his artists have to pay for this indiscretion? Sue him but leave his artists out of it. The FCC is going to have to step up and take a closer look at shit like this. If the records are selling they deserve a chance to get radio exposure. Finally, Radio One does not allow programmers to talk to the trades and they rarely if ever send us news it’s a good thing I have a ton of contacts over there but the trades are trying to run our businesses too. If I hear one more damn complaint about Jay Stevens, I’m going to write a story on it. Not to mention the conflict of interest from The Frequency which I am repeatedly told allegedly threatens to drop records from the stations if artists don’t advertise. Let’s all say it together CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
