A Hungarian singer has filed a civil lawsuit claiming her vocals were mixed into the hit Beyonce song “Drunk In Love.” The suit says, “Mitsou’s voice was sampled and digitally manipulated without her permission.”
Mitsou is the stage moniker for a singer with a difficult to pronounce name, Monika Miczura Juhasz. Two decades ago, Mitsou recorded a Hungarian folk song she learned from her grandma. Somehow, portions of that tune turned up in “Drunk In Love.” Mitsou didn’t realize it until recently when friends played the song for her.
Her lawyer contends sampling Mitsou’s voice “evokes foreign eroticism alongside the sexually intense lyrics performed by Beyoncé and Jay Z.”
She seeks an unspecified amount in damages, but the “Drunk In Love” video has been viewed on YouTube over a quarter-billion times. Ca-Ching!
