A Texas high school which has an abstinence-only policy is dealing with a huge chlamydia outbreak. Apparently, preaching abstinence has fallen on deaf ears and now one in every 15 students has the sexually-transmitted disease, prompting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to call it an epidemic.
Crane High School administrators are now rethinking their approach to sex education. The school's superintendent says, “We do have an abstinence curriculum, and that evidently ain’t working. We need to do all we can, although it’s the parents’ responsibility to educate their kids on sexual education.” (People)
Say Whaat:
They're high school kids. They're going to have sex no matter what you teach them.
Preaching abstinence will never work. You have to teach kids about safe sex.
That's nasty. I would pull my kid out of that school.
