Chaka Khan Honored by the UNCF

Chaka Khan received the Award of Excellence and an evening full of tribute performances at the UNCF's annual An Evening of Stars program Friday in Pasadena, California. In presenting the award, the College Fund cited the work of the singer's Chaka Khan Foundation in mentoring college-bound middle school students.

Stevie Wonder, Ginuwine, Anita Baker, El DeBarge, Faith Evans, Fantasia, Melanie Fiona, Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone and daughter Melini Khan were among the artists on hand to sing songs from Chaka's extensive catalog. Mo'Nique, Quincy Jones, Akon, Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker, Taraji P. Henson and Herbie Hancock also took part in the two-hour ceremony, which was taped for a January 2011 airdate.
