BRUSSELS ATTACK: President Obama, Candidates React

President Obama pledged his support to the Belgium people in the wake of this morning's terror attacks which killed at least 31 and injured more than 100.

The President was addressing the Cuban people at a speech in Havana when he took a moment to share his thoughts and prayers with the people of Belgium. He said, "This is yet another reminder that the world must unite. We must be together regardless of nationality or race or faith in fighting the scourge of terrorism."

Meanwhile, presidential hopefuls were quick to respond to the attacks this morning. The Republican front-runner Donald Trump called in to NBC's Today show and said, "Brussels is a total mess. They're just a city that used to be one of the finest and one of the most beautiful and one of the safest cities in the world, and now it's a catastrophic, very dangerous city where the police have very little control."

Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton later told Today, "The idea that terrorists are continuing to strike at the heart of Europe and now Brussels, and the number of casualties from what looked to be fairly sophisticated, coordinated attacks is deeply distressing." She added, "We’ve got to stand in solidarity with our European allies, as they have stood with us on so many occasions, and we have to intensify our efforts to find and prevent terrorists from ever doing this again."

Republican candidates Ted Cruz and John Kasich also issued statements. Cruz said, "Today’s attacks in Belgium underscores that this is a war. This is not an isolated incident. This is not a lone wolf. Isis had declared Jihad. The time for the president’s political correctness has passed. We absolutely have to revisit our immigration policy across the board to prevent Islamic terrorists from coming in.” Kasich said he was "sickened" by the attack and said the U.S. needs to "redouble our efforts with our allies to identify, root out and destroy the perpetrators of such acts of evil."

Democrat Bernie Sanders had not yet spoken publicly.
