Soul legend Bobby Womack has died. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was 70 years old and was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012. (There had been conflicting rumors about this, but his label confirmed the news Friday evening.) Still, his website listed upcoming dates through the summer.
In addition to a long career as a performer, he wrote such memorable songs as The Rolling Stones’ first UK hit “It’s All Over Now" and "Lookin’ for a Love” (later covered by J. Geils).
Born in Cleveland on March 4th, 1944, Bobby Womack got his start singing gospel with his siblings. In 1962, The Womack Brothers became The Valentinos and scored a Top 10 R&B hit with "Lookin' for a Love."
After touring as Sam Cooke's guitarist, Womack caused a scandal when he wed Cooke's widow three months after the singer's 1964 shooting death.
Bobby's first solo success came in 1971 with "That's the Way I Feel About 'Cha."
