Bishop Attacked, Shot Outside Home In Nashville

A local Baptist bishop was sent to an area hospital after he and his wife were attacked on their way home from church.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police Department said Bishop Alonzo Hatchett was shot in the leg during the ordeal. His wife was punched in the face during the altercation.

Hatchett is the bishop at Foster Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville and is in training to be a Metro Police Chaplain.

"There's going to be police under every trash can, behind every bush and in every alley way until we find and bring to justice people who go around and dare to shoot and perpetuate violence in our community," said Rev. Enoch Fuzz.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday, at a residence on Patton Hill Road, not far off Brick Church Pike.

Hatchett and his wife were on the way home from church, when they came upon on a group of suspects blocking the road near their house.

He was able to drive around the group and pull into his driveway. At that point, the group came up to him and some sort of an argument broke out.

According to police, one of the suspects then pulled out a gun and shot Hatchett in the leg. Hatchett, also armed, then took out his gun and shot at the suspects.

It's unclear if any of the suspects were hurt. They fled the scene on foot.

Hatchett was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was said to be in stable condition. WTVF
