The Georgia Department of Revenue has raided Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles restaurants in the metro Atlanta area.
Gladys Knight’s son, who runs the operation, is at the center of an investigation involving $1 million.
Gladys Knight is not involved in this investigation.
The restaurants are currently closed.
James Boyd, a consultant to the chain, is quoted as saying he is “trying to help stabilize the business.”
“I was made aware of the tax situation,” Boyd said. “It’s our intent to get the business back open. The business will go on. I want the public to know both sides.”
He said he believes the business is viable.
“I believe we can working something out to satisfy the tax obligations, protect the employees and the vendors and serve the public,” Boyd said.
