A Chicago man has been charged with the "targeted assassination" of a 9-year-old boy as part of a gang retaliation, police said Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as Dwight Boone-Doty, was arrested for taking part in the November 2015 murder of Tyshawn Lee, who was believed to be targeted because of his father's alleged ties to a gang.
Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said that the 22-year-old Boone-Doty is also believed to be responsible for the shooting death of 18-year-old Brianna Jenkins, about two week before he allegedly gunned down the Lee boy.
Acting Chicago Police Superintendent John Escalante said Lee's killing was "something far more sinister" than a random shooting. He said his murder was a "targeted assassination" carried out because of his father's alleged links to a gang. (ABC News)
