Friends and family are mourning the death of Francisco "Frankie" Garcia, a U.S. Army veteran who returned home from Afghanistan four months ago and was shot to death early Sunday morning.
According to police, the 22-year-old Garcia was killed after an argument started outside of his girlfriend's home in Sylmar, California.
Lieutenant Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department said, "The ironies are obvious. To survive as a soldier in an overseas conflict, only to be killed in your old neighborhood upon your return."
Fernando Mora, a long-time friend, said that Garcia had told him he lost several of his fellow soldiers and friends in the Middle East. Mora added, "He came back alive. So to die like this, it's not right."
