Aretha Franklin cancels New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

Aretha Franklin canceled her Friday night appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, but organizers got a big break when they landed Earth Wind and Fire to fill in on extremely short notice. Earth Wind and Fire had an open night on their schedule Friday -- and their gig on Saturday was only 65 miles away in Biloxi, Mississippi. Aretha told JazzFest organizers on Thursday she'd be a last-minute scratch -- though no reason has been announced to the public.

Lady Soul is also making anything but sweet music with Michigan officials. The state has filed a lien against her for $11,000 in overdue income taxes.
