APSU baseball coach resigns after being arrested in prostitution sting

Longtime Austin Peay State University baseball coach Gary McClure has resigned after being arrested in a prostitution sting Friday.

Police said McClure responded to an ad on Backpage.com and arranged to meet a prostitute.

He reportedly agreed to pay $80 to the woman once they met up.

McClure was booked into the Montgomery County jail. His bond was set at $250.

McClure joined APSU in 1988. He is the winningest baseball coach in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Interim Athletics Director Cheryl Holt has appointed Coach Derrick Dunbar as interim head coach.

APSU President Alisa White said “This is a sad situation for all involved. It conflicts with the core values of our university and does not represent the values of our outstanding faculty and staff; therefore, we have accepted Mr. McClure’s resignation. We are moving forward with Derrick Dunbar as interim head coach. Mr. Dunbar is well respected among the Austin Peay community and is known for his outstanding leadership, discipline and drive that will help him lead the program with excellence during this transition.” -WKRN
