Donald Sterling decides not to sell the Clippers

An October 2013 photo shows Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, right, and V. Stiviano, left. A recording released Friday includes racist comments allegedly made by Sterling as the couple argued. The NBA is investigating the claim.

Donald Sterling has decided to go ahead with a lawsuit against the NBA and block the $2-billion sale of the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, and yesterday released a long statement to explain why he's doing it and to take some shots at the NBA.

Sterling blasts the NBA for trying to take away his right to privacy and freedom of speech and says his fight is a fight for all Americans. He also calls the NBA "a band of hypocrites and bullies," and "despicable monsters" who are ignoring the league's own history of discriminatory practices which he says are supported by numerous lawsuits brought against it by employees. Sterling writes, "We have to fight for the rights of all Americans. We have to fight these despicable monsters. This is the reason I will not sell my team."
