BARBARA WALTERS: Announces Final Appearance Hosting The View

Her last day is May 16th, and she'll be saluted that evening with an ABC prime-time special.

Barbara Walters will make her final appearance on The View May 16th. The first woman to co-anchor a network morning program and evening newscast, a prolific interviewer, and the long-time co-anchor of ABC's 20/20, Walters announced last year she would be sharply cutting back her on-air work. She is now 84.

Along with taking her final turn with her fellow panelists on The View, Walters will be saluted the night of May 16th with a two-hour prime-time special looking back on her remarkable career.

In a statement, ABC chairman Robert Iger says, "In this business there are legends, there are icons, and then there is Barbara Walters... She broke barriers, defied convention, made history and set the standard for journalistic excellence for more than 50 years.  It’s hard to imagine television without her."

The network also announced today (Monday) that its news headquarters in New York will be re-named in her honor.
