Investigators aren’t exactly sure what caused an 18-year-old in Butts County to beat his grandmother to death with a baseball bat.

JeNorman Bland, 18, is in jail, facing several charges including murder.

Deputies found Bland’s grandmother dead inside her home around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“She was struck multiple times with a baseball bat,” Butts Co. Sheriff Gray Long told News/Talk WSB.

Long says it didn’t take investigators long to start looking for the grandson. He was later arrested by Griffin police.

“He confessed to the murder,” said Long.

According to Long, Bland told investigators he went to his grandmother’s house asking for a ride to the store. But she was getting ready to go to work. Bland went outside, grabbed the bat and came back in swinging. Long says Bland chased his grandmother through the house with the bat.

Bland stole his grandmother’s car after the beating, Long said.

The GBI has been called in and his helping with the investigation.

Bland is charged with murder, false imprisonment, kidnapping and armed robbery.

His first court appearance is expected sometime Thursday.
