J. Cole Reacts To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse On Justin Timberlake’s ‘TKO’ Remix

Remnants of that Kendrick Lamar “Control” verse just won’t go away, will it?
Yesterday, in honor of Black Friday, Justin Timberlake dropped an official remix to his 20/20 Experience single, “TKO” which features J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and Pusha T. For starters, the track is fire and is guaranteed to get a repeated spin or two to digest the lyrical content, but the real treat was J. Cole, who used his storytelling tactics to give a reaction to Kendrick calling his name out in a lineup of rappers he’d murder earlier this year. In the verse, Cole raps:
Thought you was a down ass b-tch / Til I found that sh-t a couple days ago / I was home alone, next thing I know / That long a-s verse from a song called “Control” was on / The room got nearer, the tomb got clearer / That’s when I seen the sh-t playin’ on your phone / Girl, what is that? A ringtone? / Sh-t, not you too / Man that hype done got you too / Everybody and their momma gassed / Even my momma asked what I’mma do / Decisions, decisions / In case this is war, then I load up on all ammunition / If a n-gga want problems, my trigger’s on auto / I’ll make sure that nobody miss him
J. Cole goes on to remind us that he has a record deal and a college degree, two gold plaques, produced all his tracks, never leaned on Jay Z for anything and he’s still a real G who hasn’t gotten his teeth fixed, before ending the verse with:
Now you try to play me, b-tch?
You try to f-ckin’ play me? I ought to knock your ass out
Well alright Cole!
Once you get past all of that, there’s A$AP Rocky who addresses blogs and their commenters who say he doesn’t like blacks (I’m guessing he’s referencing the “dark skinned girls shouldn’t wear red lipstick comment”), and Pusha T finishes out the song with some “Album Of the Year” and boo piece talk (Hey Ginny!).
