Solange Knowles is paving her own pay in music history, adding record company owner to her resume.
According to reports, Beyonce’s little sister recently launched her very own independent label, Saint Records, where she says, “I’ll be releasing my music and other projects distributed through SONY!”
“It is through SAINT RECORDS that I will be releasing my full length album, and also future music projects that I’m excited about sharing,” she announced to her Twitter followers. “Through Saint Records I will have 100% creative/artistic control & continue to passionately pursue my footing in this new musical movement.”
In a recent interview with Complex magazine, where she graces the June/July cover, Knowles stated she’s looking forward to releasing her new material outside of a major label deal.
“I wanted to make all of the creative artistic decisions but I wasn’t the one paying for it. And they didn’t fully trust me to make them. Every decision was a battle. It was exhausting. I wanted to be in a position where not only was the music fully my body of work, but everything thereafter was also my body of work,” she said. “I knew that meant I had to leave and that I had to struggle. (I) split with the label and later that year leaked a song called “F**k the Industry (Signed Sincerely).”
The 26-year-old went on a gush about her new track with rapper Kendrick Lamar called “Looks Good With Trouble.”
“I wrote and recorded ‘Look Good With Trouble’ as a prelude to ‘Bad Girls’” she said. “But decided to create it as a full song and add the brilliant storytelling of Kendrick Lamar.”
